Steinbach Girl Guides

Another Guiding year has passed

We’ve made new friends and kept the old. We’ve made promises, and learned about the environment. We’ve had a lot of fun along the way, and learned a lot about ourselves, and about others.

Steinbach Girl Guides

This year we’ve seen each girl learn and grow, both in the things she has done on her own, and in the time she spent with her sisters in guiding. Guiding teaches girls to be proud of who they are and of their accomplishments. Guiding is something different for every girl, but we hope that each and every girl had a wonderful year. Even more so, we hope to see everyone back next year for even more fun and adventure!

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

This year marked the Queen’s 60th year on the throne. To celebrate, Girl Guides everywhere could participate in a series of activities called the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Challenge. This challenge is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for girls and leaders alike.

Some of the activities the girls participated in included writing letters to Her Majesty, building princess towers using marshmallows and spaghetti, and learning about a day in the life of the Queen. The girls also each made crowns, and the Guides and Pathfinders created drawings of the floor plan they would each use if they could build their own castle.

Challenge

Another challenge we worked on together is the 2012 World Thinking Day Challenge. In order to complete this challenge, we learned about all the different ways we can help make Mother Earth happier. We made signs to put around our homes, reminding us to turn off lights when we leave the room. We talked about all of the ways we can travel without creating harmful emissions, and acted out different ideas like riding bikes, skipping, and jogging. And finally, we planted trees in Woodridge to rebuild the areas damaged by forest fires… Just over 700 trees in fact!

Looking Forward

Next year promises to hold even more fun and adventure for all levels of Guiding in Steinbach. The girls sat down with their leaders to discuss what they’d like to do next year, and requests included camps, sleepovers, spa night, crafts, games, and all things fun!

The planning has already begun, and will include many of the same events from holiday parties to Thinking Day. We hope to complete even more badges next year.

The Guiders are all looking forward to next year, and we hope the girls and their families are as well! Over the summer, remember to share and be a friend, to lend a hand, and to respect the Guiding Law.

Happy Guiding, and have a wonderful Summer!
