Last week, the Governor General of Canada delivered our Government’s Speech from the Throne to open Canada’s 40th Parliament.

Well, officially it is still fall, but as we all know, in Manitoba our seasons often don’t march to the precise drumbeat of the calendar.

The Manitoba Legislature begins a new session November 20th with an opening that will be slightly different than is tradition.

Fresh from federal election victory, over 2,000 Conservative delegates wrapped up our second convention – hosted right here in Manitoba.

Recently a number of persons have referred to me as an artist of sorts after reading something I have written.

It was just a few years ago that talk show hosts across the country were expressing concern that Remembrance Day observations would become smaller events as less and less World War I and World War II veterans remained to tell the story of those conflicts.

On November 7, 2007, Samuel Golubchuk was admitted to the ICU at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg; where his life is being sustained by a ventilator and tube feeding.

That was the sound NDP Finance Minister Greg Selinger was hearing after his meeting this week with his provincial and federal counterparts where he learned that the tap was being closed on ever increasing amounts of cash from Ottawa.

During these uncertain economic times, it is important to remember that as Canadians, our quality of life is dependent on a prosperous and competitive economy that engages in global markets, in terms of trade, investment and innovation.
