Hernias
My husband discovered he had a herniated bowel a few months ago. His doctor suggested surgery, so last week he went under the knife to have a mesh put in behind the split muscle so his bowel would not slip out. He is still recovering, after a week and a half he is back at work. Other than being a little tired, he seems to be recovering quite well.
Before his surgery I had him taking arnica spray. Three sprays per day under the tongue, three times per day. The arnica helps his muscles to heal faster and it also works as a painkiller. He also uses our arnica gel on his wounds. This course of action seemed to help him quite well, as his doctor was impressed how his wounds were healing and surprised that he did not take anything other than a couple of extra strength Tylenol for the pain.
To keep internal muscles from herniating in the first place, it is very important to take adequate amounts of vitamin C. Vitamin C will help heal weakened tissues and helps for proper immune function. Vitamin C can be taken until bowel tolerance, meaning that once diarrhea is experienced, cut back on the dosage. Zinc is also necessary for healing and repair of tissues.
Aloe vera juice taken internally will help to heal the hernia. Aloe vera juice has a weird taste that is hard to explain, and it also comes in capsule form. I have spoken to many customers who have taken aloe vera juice for their stomach ulcers and they have told me that the juice, although it tastes bad, healed their ulcers.
Hawthorn, fennel, shepherd’s purse and barberry have been used successfully for treatment of hernias. I have not read any documentation that explains how these herbs work, so the best course of action is to talk to a herbalist or naturopath if you are looking for an alternative to surgery for your hernia.
Make sure you are taking a multi vitamin, omega oil, probiotic blend and adequate fibre (28 grams per day). These are what we call the “core” nutritional supplements for optimal health. Sometimes by just taking these, and changing your diet to whole foods, we have heard of customers “healing” everything from acne to arthritis and kids who miraculously get rid of hyperactivity or ADHD.
My husband is still recovering, and with the right supplements this should be the only time he will have to go through this. Remember that if you do require surgery to take off enough time from work to rest and relax and heal.
