More than 100 volunteers are coming together this weekend at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach to plant 100,000 pink and blue flags – representing human lives ended by abortion every year in Canada.

“The 100,000 small pink and blue flags represent the approximately 100,000 human lives ended by abortion every year in Canada,” said Mike Schouten, director for WeNeedaLAW.ca. “Every flag is a testament to a little girl or boy who was denied a welcome into our nation.”

The mission of WeNeedaLAW.ca is to build and mobilize a movement of Canadians for the purpose of passing laws to protect children before birth.

“Canada affords no legal protection for pre-born children, at any stage of pregnancy,” said Schouten. “This means that pre-born girls are targeted for abortion simply because they are female. We are in the company of no other country when it comes to protecting human rights for the smallest members of the human family. Provincial and federal governments need to act quickly in passing legislation that puts us closer into line with every other democracy in the world.”

The pink and blue flag display will begin the morning of Saturday, October 1, 2016. The 100 volunteers will be engaging with passersby for the duration of the day until the display is taken down at 4pm.
