Steinbach Christmas tree pick-up

Christmas trees left at the curb will be picked up by the City of Steinbach’s Solid Waste Department as time permits during the weeks of December 31st and January 7th.

Eldon Wallman, Solid Waste Department Head, explains that it usually takes about two weeks after December 25th for most of the trees to be out for pick-up. However, the Solid Waste Department continues to pick up trees into the new year as time permits.

Ever wonder what happens to your tree after Christmas? Wallman explains, “We try to keep the trees with our clean wood pile for chipping in spring. We then use the chipped wood, mixed with dirt, as cover material in our active cell at the landfill.”

Wallman adds that the wood mulch created from Christmas trees is not suitable for flower beds because of the high acidity of the pine needles.
