Steinbach youth assaulted by father

A Steinbach man is facing assault charges after being arrested by police earlier this week.

On January 29, 2013, at 1:15am, Steinbach RCMP were called to an assault within Steinbach. Police investigation revealed that a 13-year-old girl was assaulted by her 43-year-old father. The child advised she was pushed by her intoxicated father into a glass coffee table resulting in a severe cut to her leg. The child had to flee the residence and seek help from a nearby neighbour.

RCMP report that the child was transported to the hospital by EMS. Injuries to the girl required 10-12 stitches to close the wound on her leg.

Police subsequently arrested and charged the 43-year-old father with assault causing bodily harm.

Police investigation is continuing.
