On March 4, 2013, just after 2pm, Virden RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway, about 2 km west of Virden.

Initial investigation indicates a male snowmobile operator had become stuck. Police say that a second rider was assisting when he was struck by an oncoming snowmobile.

RCMP report that the injured rider, a 50-year-oldĀ  man from the RM of Wallace, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There were no other injuries reported.

An RCMP traffic Collision Analyst will be assisting with the ongoing investigation.
