Claire Banman has announced that she is seeking election for Hanover School Board Trustee in the Steinbach ward.

At 32 years of age, Claire Banman has grown up in Steinbach and has gone through the Steinbach Hanover public schools K-12. She has been married for 12 years and has two children, one in elementary and the other in middle school. Claire served on Southwood School Parent Council for the last couple of years as Chair and Fundraiser and events Coordinator, joining Stoneybrook Middle School PAC this year as well with her oldest child heading into middle school.
Seeking a spot as Trustee feels like a natural progression, I have a huge passion in what’s going on in our schools with my children being there and heading into the older grades. Banman notes that in Hanover there is a unique community which attracts many people. “I think that the current board has done a great job and I think we will have to continue to be globally aware, sensitive and open minded making wholesome and fair decisions for all students coming from different walks of life, points of view, beliefs and cultures being in a public school setting when making sensitive issue decisions,” says Banman. “I think the goal is working to see that all students are in a safe, productive learning environment working to achieve the highest level of education possible and I would like to see that this continues to be the goal.”
Being an active part of parent council, Claire has been to many of the liaison and public board meetings and has a really good understanding of the issues, time commitment and hard work it takes to be a trustee. Claire, along with her husband, have gone through many building projects together so she would have a good understanding and would be excited to see the larger scale school building projects through. Claire would also like to see continued work with teachers on what matters to them having not only the right tools such as new computers, but also the programs they need on those computers to teach to the best of their abilities and keep on top of current technology. She would like to see that teachers have the resources they need in the classrooms to make learning fun and engaging.
