On April 28 and 29, 2015 Steinbach RCMP partnered with the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation in the enforcement of distracted drivers, specifically motorists who were driving using their cell phones or other electrical devices.

Steinbach RCMP issued 40 offences in the two days under the Highway Traffic Act for using a cellular telephone or other hand operated electrical device while driving a vehicle.

Police say that the fine for this offence is $203.80 as well as receiving demerit points.

RCMP want to remind the public that the use of a cell phone anytime while driving is not only illegal, but extremely dangerous. Regardless if the driver is stopped such as at a red light or holding their phone away from their ear, those actions are illegal.
