Fatal house fire in God's Lake First Nation

On November 5, 2009, at about 11pm, God’s Lake Narrows RCMP were advised of a house fire in the Community of God’s Lake First Nation.

RCMP responded quickly, but upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. RCMP evacuated the occupants of a nearby home to ensure their safety. The local water truck also attended the scene but the house could not be saved.

Unidentified remains have been found at the scene and one female resident is unaccounted for.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Estimates of damage are not known, however, the residence was completely destroyed from the fire.

RCMP are continuing their investigation with the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Manitoba Medical Examiner Office.

A post mortem will be scheduled in Winnipeg at the Health Sciences Centre.
