Selkirk boy charged in stabbing incident

On December 16, 2009 at approximately 3:45pm, Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to a stabbing that occurred in the playground of Ecole Selkirk Junior High located near the intersection of Mercy Street and Sophia Avenue in the City of Selkirk.

RCMP attended the scene and discovered that a 13-year-old boy, a student of Ecole Selkirk Junior High, had been stabbed after an altercation with 16-year-old boy who is a student at the nearby Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School.

The 13-year-old boy was transported to Selkirk and District General Hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The boy was later transferred to the Health Sciences Centre for further treatment and later released.

RCMP have arrested and charged a 16-year-old Selkirk boy with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. The boy was released on a recognizance before a magistrate and is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Court on January 08, 2010.

The incident occurred after regular school hours and Selkirk RCMP are continuing the investigation.
