RCMP conduct checks of fishermen and ice fishing shacks

On Saturday February 20, 2010, Selkirk RCMP partnered with Natural Resources Officers from Manitoba Conservation and conducted checks of fishermen and ice fishing shacks on the Red River near Selkirk.

Over the course of the day approximately 200 shacks were checked resulting in multiple charges under the provincial Liquor Control Act and the provincial Fisheries Act.

The Selkirk RCMP would like to remind everyone that liquor is not permitted on the ice or inside the portable ice shelters. Penalties may include fines and destruction of liquor. Additionally, all ice shacks must be removed by March 15, 2010.
