Arrest made in Thompson homicide

Thompson RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the Winnipeg RCMP Serious Crime Unit, Thompson RCMP Forensic Identification Section, members of the Brandon and Thompson RCMP Major Crime Units are investigating the murder of 25-year-old David Riley Cook.

On Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 9:25am, Thompson RCMP were dispatched to the Yale Avenue area of Thompson, where a resident, who was walking his dog, located a trail of what appeared to be blood on a wooded walking path behind residences in the area.

Members of the Thompson RCMP followed the trail of blood about two kilometres on walking paths and snowmobile trails, where they discovered the body of a man later identified as 25-year-old David Riley Cook of The Pas.

RCMP determined that the trail of blood originated from a residence in the area of Waterloo Crescent in Thompson where the murder is believed to have taken place.

24-year-old Cary Spence of Thompson has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. Spence will be appearing in Thompson Provincial Court, Monday, March 15, 2010.

RCMP report that the victim and accused knew each other.

An autopsy is scheduled in Winnipeg at the Health Sciences Centre Monday, March 15, 2010.

The investigation continues.
