RCMP investigate home invasion and break-in

On March 31, 2010 at about 4:15am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a break and enter to a home on the 100 block of 6th Street SE in Portage la Prairie.

Investigation revealed that the culprit(s) entered the home and property was stolen from the residence. The elderly male and female residents were home at the time of the break-in and suffered injuries during the commission of the offence. Both were taken to Portage General Hospital, the male suffered undetermined injuries, while his elderly wife, has since been released from the Hospital.

RCMP Portage la Prairie also responded to a business break-in at about 4:30am at a local jewelry store on the 100 block of Saskatchewan Avenue East in the City of Portage la Prairie.

Investigation revealed that the front door of the business had been smashed, and an undisclosed quantity of jewelry was stolen.

RCMP spotted the youth exiting the jewelry store and a short foot chase ensued leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Portage la Prairie. He is currently in police custody in connection with the jewelry store break and enter. Charges are pending.

The investigation into both matters continues. Police will be looking into the possibility that both matters may be linked.
