Arrest made in 2006 murder at Stony Mountain Institution

After a lengthy investigation, “D” Division RCMP Major Crimes Services and Stonewall RCMP Detachment, with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit, have made an arrest in relation to the 2006 murder of Sheldon Anthony McKay.

The Murder of McKay occurred in Stony Mountain Institution on May 2, 2006.

28-year-old Raymond Gaspard Chartrand has been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to McKay’s death.

Chartrand and McKay were housed in the same cell block range at Stony Mountain Institute at the time of the murder. 

Chartrand has been remanded in custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court today.

The investigation continues and further arrests are anticipated.
