Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship advises that dry conditions, high temperatures and low humidity are increasing the risk of fires in parts of northern Manitoba. This includes the areas south of the Churchill River and PR 391, and west of Thompson to the Saskatchewan border including the communities of Cold Lake/Sherridon, Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Snow Lake, The Pas and Wabowden.

No open fires are permitted. All burning permits already issued in these areas are now cancelled and new burning permits will not be issued. No other restrictions are in place at this time. However, further restrictions may be considered if the fire danger continues.

As people head out to parks and cottages, anyone living, working, camping or travelling in northern Manitoba should use extreme caution and avoid starting fires.

For information on burning restrictions, contact local Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship offices. A list of local conservation offices is available at www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/wildlife/about/who.html.

Reports of smoke or fires can be made to the forest fire tip line at 1-800-782-0076 (toll-free). More information on fire prevention and current fire updates is available at www.gov.mb.ca/wildfire.
