An investigation led by the RCMP “D” Division Internet Child Exploitation Unit resulted in officers executing a search warrant at a residence in The Pas, Manitoba, in connection with child pornography offences.

RCMP report that at about 4:15pm, on June 14, 2012, officers from the “D” Division ICE Unit assisted by The Pas RCMP Detachment and the RCMP Integrated Technological Crime Unit attended the suspect’s house and seized a computer and related items.

56-year-old Garry Welcome Morris was arrested on scene and has been charged with several offences including possessing, accessing and making available child pornography. All three charges are related to electronic means over the internet.

Police say that Morris has been remanded into custody to appear in The Pas Provincial Court on June 18, 2012.

The investigation continues with the assistance of the RCMP Integrated Technological Crime Unit. To date, while the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and the evidence seized requires to be closely examined, RCMP have no evidence that the suspect was in direct physical contact with any child.
