On June 25, 2012, at about 1:15pm, Selkirk RCMP Detachment and local EMS were dispatched to the Selkirk Park Pool to a report of an alleged drowning.

RCMP have since determined that a woman at the pool spotted a 44-year-old Selkirk man underwater. The situation was brought to the attention of the lifeguards on duty at the pool. The man was removed from the water at which point cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated by the lifeguards until local EMS arrived and took over. The man was transported to Selkirk Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy will be performed sometime in the coming days to determine the cause of death.

The investigation continues.
