Due to increased traffic on rural grid roads this time of year, RCMP want to remind motorists to always slow down, look carefully for traffic and prepare to yield to on coming vehicles.

When two vehicles approach an uncontrolled intersection the vehicle on the left must yield to the vehicle on the right, or “yield the right of way”. When approaching an uncontrolled intersection, even if you have the right of way, never assume anything. Slow down until you know what the other driver intends to do.

The speed limit on most rural roads is 90 km/hour unless otherwise posted. Vehicles approaching these intersections at high speeds increase the likelihood of significant injury and damage should a collision occur.

Slow down. Buckle up. Don’t drink and drive.
