On July 26, 2014, just after midnight, Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian at the intersection of Highway 10 and Provincial Road 150 West, near Minitonas, Manitoba.

Initial police investigation shows that a female pedestrian was on Highway 10 attempting to flag down a westbound car to ask for a ride. When she entered the roadway, she was struck by the car. Local EMS treated her on scene and transported her to Swan River Valley Health Centre, where the 28-year-old female from Minitonas was pronounced deceased.

Police say that the 32-year-old male driver from Brandon and his passenger suffered minor injuries in the collision.

RCMP report that the driver was not intoxicated, though alcohol appears to be a factor for the pedestrian.

An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
