Marijuana seizure in the RM of Portage la Prairie
On July 7, 2010, at about 1:50am, a Portage la Prairie RCMP member stopped a 2008 Pontiac SUV with Newfoundland plates traveling eastbound on the Trans Canada Highway in the RM of Portage la Prairie, for a traffic violation.
A strong odour of marijuana from inside the vehicle lead to the arrest of the driver a 37-year-old male from Newfoundland and the passenger, a 33-year-old female from Newfoundland. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of just over one pound of marijuana.
The driver is to appear in Portage la Prairie Court on July 7, 2010. Charges are pending under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The Passenger was released with no charges.
The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be around $3,000
