Dreams

Have you ever thought you were too old to do something? Maybe you thought you were too young. I have been in both places. Did you know that you are never too old to learn something new?

I spoke a few weeks ago at a presentation for young people who are on EI and looking to get further training to change their lives. As I looked at some of those young women, I remembered that I was 40 years old when I went into college to get my certification in HR. I was not the oldest one in my classes, but I was really close. One of the other girls in my classes was young enough to be my daughter! As I sit here I am staring down another birthday. It is not a milestone birthday, but it certainly takes me to the side of the hill that is not the climbing side. I am on the side that is supposedly on the “downhill trail and picking up speed” . I however am not thinking that way. I look at this side of the hill to get better at the things I have done in the past, and continually try new things.

So with all this in mind… if you could do anything, regardless of cost/location etc. what would you do? Where would you travel? Of these dreams what do you think you could fulfill if you put your mind to it and then your actions? I heard John MacArthur speak a few years back on the radio, and he said was talking about God’s will, and he quoted of Psalms 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart” So John said something along the lines of “if you are truly delighting in the Lord, then your desires quite possibly are his desires as well.”

Sometimes, dreams need to be figured out and worked out. What do you need? Dreams don’t always just happen. Last year I decided in January that I was going to do a half Marathon in August. I trained for that event for 8 months. It took hard work and dedication, but it was my dream and I wanted to fulfill it.

So now, think about your dream. What do you need to do? Do you need further education? Maybe talk to your employer if you are currently working. What’s the worst they could say? No. But they could say yes. You never know until you ask. Do you need to change things up? I once heard a guy say – how do you eat an elephant – one bite at a time. While that seems obvious, if your dreams are big, you may need to do things one step at a time.

So back to my original statement… you may think you are too old, or too young for that matter. Unless your body says otherwise, age is a number and that is all in your head. Dream big, dream often, shoot for the moon, and you might just reach the stars.
