Standing on my Soap Box

Starting Over

Well, as you all know I have been on a “let’s get Sheila healthy” kick for quite some time now. However the past 5 months have been anything but great. So while I have gained only a few pounds back, I need to get back into things, before I get back into my old pants!

So can we restart? I sure hope so. God doesn’t stick me to a box that says that I need to stay on this or that program for this amount of time, and if I don’t adhere to that time frame, then he will hit me over the head. In reality the only person with a bat in their hand to hit me over the head is me!   He will honor my commitment to getting better regardless of when I get back to it.

So with that in mind, I went out for a run one night and a bike ride another night this past week and these were my first time for both in a LONG time. I have actually been missing going on runs, but the old law of what is in motion stays in motion. What isn’t in motion stays that way too. I have been in non motion and need to get back to it. I didn’t need to wait until Monday morning, or January 1 (Or whatever your magic start time/date is). My goal through this is plain and simple – get health, honor God with my body as it is his temple. The one verse that I continue to be reminded of is “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

When it comes to “plans”, I have tried a “few”. Years ago I was successful on Weight Watchers. I was younger, had a lot less to lose, I was single and lived alone therefore I could control the food I had in the house. Being married with 4 other people in the house doesn’t always allow me to control what is in the house that is tempting. I couple years ago I tried a shake plan, that made me DIZZY. More recently I tried another shake/supplement program. When I signed up for that one, I knew in my spirit that I wasn’t supposed to. The plan I am currently using states that we really should do what we are willing to do for the rest of our lives. Drinking a shake instead of eating is not what I would consider a healthy idea for life. So my plan doesn’t limit any food, it’s more of a common sense approach – eat less, exercise more (more than what a slug or sloth would move).

What about you? What are you doing to get healthy? This doesn’t have to be a big “extreme weight loss” episode. You might just find that you are feeling a little better…
