Last Thursday I had the privilege of honouring at the Manitoba Legislature two organizations that have teamed together to help students get the school supplies they need.

Joining me at the legislature from the Steinbach Family Resource Centre was Executive Director Vicki Olatundun and Chairperson Carmel Wiebe, as well as Gerald Jeske and Dustin Lynes, the General Manager and Assistant Manager of Staples, Steinbach. Together, this business and not-for-profit partnership was able to raise $8,242.43 to purchase school supplies for those local families in need.

Steinbach has always been a generous community to those in need and over 1,400 customers donated, resulting in over 175 students receiving the supplies necessary for the school year. It is encouraging to see a community take charge and aid those who are struggling in a circumstance out of their control.

On behalf of the residents of the Steinbach Constituency and the Manitoba government, I commend Vicki, Carmel, Gerald and Dustin, as well as all those who participated in this initiative for your generosity of spirit, your kindness, and your compassion for those in need. You have demonstrated to the rest of Manitoba the best of Steinbach.
