Last week I was pleased to announce that KPMG LLP has been awarded the contract for the Health Care Sustainability and Innovation Review in Manitoba. The contract was awarded after an open tender process. The consulting firm and their team of experts will look at whether the province’s health-care services are being provided at a reasonable cost, if they’re producing good results and are properly aligned, and if expectations are being met. Our government promised this review when we took office and it will go a long way in finding efficiencies in Manitoba’s health care system, and improve its responsiveness and sustainability.

Provincial governments across Canada recognize that the health care system as it is currently structured is not financially sustainable. The review will assess spending against a set of three criteria, efficiency, effectiveness and economy, and will be completed in two phases, with an initial report expected by the end of January 2017. Manitobans expect a system that improves their health and provides quality care while remaining cost-effective, and we anticipate the results of this review will make costs more sustainable in the long-term.
