Addictions Information Meeting in Steinbach

  • Kelvin Goertzen, Author
  • Member of the Legislative Assembly, Steinbach

With the growing concern about the presence of fentanyl in Manitoba, the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba will be hosting community forums throughout the province to provide youth and families with the information they need to know about fentanyl and other drugs.

As the Minister of Health, I know firsthand that parents and young people throughout our province are looking for more information about the facts and dangers of fentanyl and carfentanyl. Awareness and education are some of the best tools we have as a community to fight the rise of these opioid drugs and I encourage everyone along with their families and friends to come out and participate in these forums.

For Steinbach and the surrounding region, the forum will be on Thursday, February 16th at 7-9pm at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School (190 McKenzie Ave). Everyone is welcome and you will be able to join experts from the AFM and other community organizations for an opportunity to learn more about fentanyl and other drugs from a variety of perspectives, including addictions experts, law enforcement, and health care workers. Speakers will include Dr. Sheri Fandrey, B,S,P., Ph.D. and Dr. Ginette Poulin, RDMD, CCFP from the AFM, and there will be panel discussions and an open forum for questions and answers.

Other communities that will be receiving a scheduled forum are: Brandon, Dauphin, Portage la Prairie, Thompson, Selkirk, and Winnipeg. For more information please call: 1-855-662-6605, email youth@afm.mb.ca or visit www.afm.mb.ca.
