Mental Health and Addictions Strategy

  • Kelvin Goertzen, Author
  • Member of the Legislative Assembly, Steinbach

Our government has always been very clear that exploring better addictions and mental health treatment options is a priority, which is why we recently issued a request for proposal (RFP) to recruit a consultant to assist in the development of a mental health and addictions strategy: comprising mental health and addictions programs and services, with an emphasis on better co-ordination and access. Because studies show that there is often a close correlation between mental health and addiction, creating a plan that aligns the services together is important to improving results.

By initiating the process to find a qualified consultant that has knowledge of best practices in other jurisdictions and is experienced in developing mental health and addiction strategic plans, we are confirming our ongoing commitment to create better co-ordination and access to mental health and addictions services for all Manitobans. This strategy will help ensure services are easier to access, which may prevent delays and costs within the system, rather than create added expenses.
