This Saturday is the 12th Annual Steinbach Pick Up and Walk event, which will see the Steinbach community come together to give back to the city by taking the morning to go around and collect garbage off the streets, ditches, parks, and highways.
The walk is organized through 20 local churches and makes a big difference in our city. I am always amazed to see how many volunteers come out to the walk each and every year to help clean our community and what a difference it makes.
Volunteers are asked to meet on May 6 at 9 a.m. at T.G. Smith Arena, where they will receive their maps, routes, gloves and garbage bags. Everyone is welcome to participate and volunteers will be dispatched in groups of 6-10 with a leader. You are encouraged to wear rubber boots, a yellow shirt, and to make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. A complimentary lunch for volunteers will be provided at the arena at noon, as a thank you to all who participated.
Organizers are expecting 1,600 volunteers this year, the highest turnout yet, and are set to pick up over 8 tons worth of garbage. The Pick Up and Walk is a remarkable community event that allows us to take pride in our City, be good stewards of our environment, and set an example of community spirit. I look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday.
