It was an honour to stand in the Manitoba Legislature on Tuesday to recognize the community accomplishments of Gilbert Fehr, in a Private Member’s Statement.
Affectionately known as “Gibs”, Gibs is one of the most active community volunteers in the entire province and there is hardly a parade, festival, or charity event in Steinbach and the surrounding area that he is not a part of. I was very proud to share Gibs’ community involvement with my colleagues on the record. Earlier this year Gibs’ was named a torchbearer for Steinbach in the 2017 Provincial Summer Games and participated in the games, winning a gold medal as a Special Olympian competing in 5-pin bowling.
In true Steinbach fashion, Gibs was recognized rink side in 2015 by our MJHL team the Pistons, as volunteer of the month. Gibs was also a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, a well-deserved recognition for his hours of volunteerism, community commitment and enthusiasm.
On behalf of the Manitoba Legislature, I want to congratulate you Gibs on your spirit of generosity. You love your neighbors and community and you show it. Thank you for your hard work, determination, and compassion. You continue to inspire us and demonstrate the best of Steinbach and Manitoba.
