Intersection Improvements

The continued growth of the City of Steinbach, the RM of Hanover and the surrounding region places significant pressure on a number of areas. In particular, as population increases so does the traffic.

Many of the intersections that have the most traffic in and around the City of Steinbach were never designed to handle the volume of traffic that currently exists and that will exist in the near future. Much work has already been done at almost all of the main entry points into Steinbach, particularly along Highway 12 North where redesigned intersections are either already open or are in the process of being constructed.

The number one priority for the City, as identified by Steinbach City Council, is the intersection of PTH 52 and West Industrial Road. This intersection has seen a number of new entities begin and grow around it which has increased the traffic and the number of accidents at this intersection.

On Monday, I was pleased to welcome Manitoba Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler to Steinbach where we announced the province would be making improvements to the intersection including the installation of traffic signals. The project will be part of this spring’s infrastructure tender. In addition, improvements were recently completed to the intersection of PTH 12 and Loewen Boulevard which saw the installation of a new signal controller and improved traffic detectors.

As the region continues to grow there will be more pressure placed on infrastructure needs. While growth places challenges on all levels of government, it is a welcomed challenge as we see our region and its residents improve and succeed.
