Steinbach School Infrastructure Projects Announced

  • Kelvin Goertzen, Author
  • Member of the Legislative Assembly, Steinbach

Last week I announced that our government is investing over $54 million in school infrastructure projects across Manitoba to support upgrades and maintenance of our schools. These investments, include needed upgrades at the Stonybrook Middle School in Steinbach which will see over the next 18 months roof and boiler replacements and a new elevator.

These infrastructure investments are critical to our ability to maximize the lifespan and value of our existing schools that are important fixtures in our communities. These schools are more than just the spaces our children learn; they are meeting places, playgrounds, and valuable shared places where communities come together, and our government knows these buildings need consistent upkeep. Overall, funding commitments were made in the following amounts for projects throughout the province:

  • $14.3 million for roof replacements
  • $16.3 million on mechanical systems replacements
  • $13.3 million on structural upgrades
  • $10.5 million on access projects

These important projects are essential for our schools and can benefit generations to come.

These upgrades to existing schools come in addition to the new schools that have been announced over the past year and are either in design or construction. Our government has also invested in new schools to provide new facilities for communities that need them most. Seven new schools will be built across Manitoba and includes a Grades 9-12 English school in Niverville in the Hanover School Division. These major investments will make sure our students have the best facilities to learn in for many years to come, and provide great spaces for our communities to enjoy. Our government is working hard to make sure there is sufficient space for students in our province and these major investments in new schools show our commitment to students in Manitoba.
