Tax Relief in 2019

  • Kelvin Goertzen, Author

Manitoba families will be benefiting from tax changes coming into effect in 2019 that will help keep more money in your pockets.

The basic personal exemption rate will increase again this tax year, meaning you can keep more of your money right away. The basic personal exemption is the amount of money you can earn before you begin paying taxes on your earnings. Increasing the amount has removed thousands of people from the tax rolls here in Manitoba.

For many years the basic personal exemption was frozen in our province making it a hidden tax increase. We have been increasing it every year in government to ensure the earning power of Manitobans is maintained. This is in addition to changes to help small businesses invest more back into Manitoba, as well as helping new child care centres with a new tax credit.

We know Manitobans make the best decisions with their money, and that’s why we are working to keep taxes low here in Manitoba. We will continue to work to ensure that our taxes are competitive and that Manitobans are able to keep more of the money they earn.
