The Manitoba Legislature will return to session on Tuesday October 20th, the day following the federal election. It will be in session into December and then again in February leading up to the provincial election which will take place in April 2016.
When the Legislature resumes next week one of the first orders of business will be dealing with the spring budget which has still not been passed. There are still many hours of line by line examination of the budget that has to happen before it comes to a final vote on November 5th. This is particularly important given the recent news that the NDP once again overspent the last budget by more than $100 million.
In addition, there are many government bills and bills sponsored by individual members that need to be reviewed and voted upon between the beginning of session and December. And of course, many questions will be raised regarding how the NDP has been managing issues such as Child and Family Services, health care and the finances, among others. It will be an important time in the Manitoba Legislature leading up to the next election.
