Every year, award winning composer, singer, songwriter and record producer David Foster hosts an annual fundraising gala, and this year it was held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
Last Saturday I had the honour of attending the 2016 David Foster Foundation Miracle Gala, where funds from the annual event went to support the non-medical expenses of Canadian families with children undergoing life-saving organ transplants. Celebrity singers came out in force in support of the gala fundraiser which raised on this one night alone, $3.2 million.
The annual fundraising event for the David Foster Foundation is not only about raising money for families in need, it greatly assists in building awareness of the need for increased organ donor registration across the country. Currently, any child who requires any organ transplant other than a kidney must travel outside of Manitoba, which adds significant non-medical expenses for families. The average cost to support one family is $10,000 and since 1986 The David Foster Foundation has assisted more than 1,000 Canadian families with children in need of major organ transplants, as well as provided millions of dollars in direct family support.
The David Foster Foundation works in collaboration with transplant teams across Canada to provide support for children up to 18 years of age, once they are listed for pediatric transplant to post-operative checkup.
