With the 2017 school year starting this week at the Hanover School Division, I would like to remind all motorists to drive with extra care in school zones, as annual restrictions took effect on September 1st.
Pedestrian, school bus and private vehicle traffic will greatly increase in school areas as classes begin and motorists are advised to drive with extra caution and be alert to the increased presence of children in school areas. Drivers affected by these areas may need to consider providing more time for their commute or altering their travel route. There is never an excuse to be in a hurry when traveling through school zones in Manitoba. In order to keep everyone safe during the school year, it is important to obey the limits in school zones and always watch for young children in all areas where students are present. Motorists are advised to pay particular attention to the posted speed as some schools have speed reductions in effect.
As a parent, I know that the beginning of the school year is a time of transition for our children, back to a predictable structure that the school year brings. I wish all of our returning students a rewarding and fulling school year along with the teachers and school staff who begin a new school year as well.
