Last week our government announced an increase to the annual operating grants for licensed, home-based child-care providers. In total an additional $245,000 will be invested in this fiscal year, with additional increases in future years.

These additional funds are aimed at curbing the national decline in the number of licensed, home-based child-care providers, as well as encouraging more providers to open such businesses.

More than 300 providers will see a benefit throughout the province with increases based on their licensed number and type of spaces. This will help strengthen the stability of home-based operators and better support the creation of new spaces in homes in the future.

This is very important for Manitobans as it will help to provide quality child-care to children across the province. The men and women who open their homes and hearts to our community’s children work long hours providing nurturing care and early learning that supports children’s development. It will also help Manitoba recruit new and retain existing licensed providers and reduce wait times.
