View From the Legislature

Our government recently announced more than $5.3 million to significantly increase the number of hip and knee replacement surgeries and cataract surgeries in Manitoba in 2019.

Last week new data was released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) regarding Emergency Room wait times in Winnipeg.

This week also celebrates 20 years of leadership by the Association of Manitoba Municipalities. For 20 years AMM has been the unified voice of municipalities from across the province in bringing forward issues of concern and learning from each other.

On Monday morning I had the opportunity to join local municipal officials and those from the Hanover School Division to announce a significant expansion to Mitchell Elementary School.

Recently at the Legislature I had the opportunity to participate in a fantastic event with community members celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.

On Tuesday our government opened a new session of the Manitoba Legislature with the Speech from the Throne.

Thursday November 8th was the final day of the Fall Session in the Legislature. After a short break, a new session of the Legislature begins on Tuesday, November 20th with a Thone Speech as government looks forward to a new set of priorities.

The Steinbach Legion once again put on a tremendous tribute this Remembrance Day at a standing room only ceremony at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre on Sunday.

I was pleased to present two awards at the 12th annual Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction, where a number of exceptional employers, tradespeople, and instructors were honoured for their work with apprentices in Manitoba.

This past week, the Government of Manitoba announced that there are two new streams for international students studying in Manitoba to move towards permanent residency and building a life in our great province.
