The Regulated Health Professions Act provides a consistent way to regulate how health-care services are provided, ensuring patient safety and accountability.

March 1st saw the beginning of the Spring Session at the Manitoba Legislature and I am very pleased to welcome back all 56 of my colleagues after the Legislative recess.

Last Tuesday I had the honour of joining with Manitoba Lung Association President and CEO Bill Pratt and Director of Fund Development Kathi Neal for the kickoff of their organization’s annual fundraiser Tulip Days.

As part of Red Tape Awareness Week, our government supported the long-term, sustainable growth of the agricultural sector by removing unnecessary regulatory requirements on the construction of farm buildings, in order to make it easier and less expensive to construct new farm buildings.

February is I Love to Read Month in Manitoba where we focus on encouraging and promoting reading within our schools.

Our government has always been very clear that exploring better addictions and mental health treatment options is a priority.

Last week as the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, I had the opportunity to recognize the efforts of paramedics across the province with my colleague Ron Schuler, Minister of Crown Services.

With the growing concern about the presence of fentanyl in Manitoba, the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba will be hosting community forums throughout the province to provide youth and families with the information they need to know about fentanyl and other drugs.

The conversation around mental health awareness in Manitoba is incredibly important and one that isn’t talked about nearly as much as it should.

As part of National Non-Smoking Week, I had the opportunity to attend a Students Working Against Tobacco event at the Niverville Collegiate Institute, which focused on encouraging youth to never start smoking or use tobacco products.
