As the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living I am very excited and honoured to proclaim October of this year Seniors’ and Elders’ Month in Manitoba.

Manitoba has always had a long standing tradition of excellence when it comes to police service dogs and their handlers.

This month I had the privilege of meeting two new additions to the Steinbach RCMP detachment, Constable Garfield Henderson and his partner, four year old German Shepherd Enzo from British Columbia.

This month Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living and Manitoba Agriculture will be co-hosting the International One Welfare Conference in Winnipeg, focusing on complex social situations where human and animal health are involved.

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet with health officials and Ministers in the Saskatchewan government in Regina.

As the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, I was pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted for the Manitoba Council on Aging Recognition Awards.

As thousands of students head back to school this week, our government has been laying the groundwork to enhance student engagement and achievement.

With September upon us, it is back to school time in the Hanover School Division and around the province.

When I was appointed in spring as the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living I was also asked by our Premier to continue to serve as Government House Leader for the spring session and to work on mentoring a new incoming House Leader.

Last week I was pleased to announce that Manitoba will now join the ranks of Ontario, Nova Scotia and British Columbia in automatically administering hearing tests to newborn infants.
