View From the Legislature

On Monday I had the honour of attending the official sod-turning for the Bethesda Primary Care Centre, which is expected to open in Steinbach in summer, 2017.

As Manitoba’s Minister of Health I was honoured to proclaim May 22-28 Paramedic Services Week in our province.

This week Manitoba’s Minister of Finance provided a financial update in advance of the upcoming provincial budget which is scheduled for May 31st.

On Monday, March 16th I was honoured to be present and mark the opening of the First Session of the Forty First Legislature at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

On Sunday I was honoured to be present at the Steinbach Legion Award Ceremony, where three local Second World War veterans; Bennie Klick, Lloyd Lehman, and John Owczar received honours from Bruno Burnichon, Honorary Consul of France.

On Tuesday I was honoured to be appointed Manitoba’s Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living.

It was well past midnight that I was driving home with my wife Kim and son Malachi after having spent the evening of the election doing analysis on CBC television and watching as the first Progressive Conservative government in 16 years was elected.

The Manitoba Legislature will end its session on Tuesday March 15th and sometime between then and March 22nd a provincial election will begin with Election Day being April 19th.

It’s only a matter of days now until the provincial election kicks off and yet the NDP’s dysfunction as a government is on full display in the Manitoba Legislature.

Manitoba is on the eve of another provincial election. In less than 60 days, Manitobans will head to the ballot box to choose their government for the next four years.
