View From the Legislature

Most Manitobans would expect the Legislature to be a pretty quiet place between Christmas and New Years Day.

It’s traditional for people at the end of each year to both look back at the year that was as well as to look forward to the year that is to come. Often it’s a time that people look to make changes in their personal and professional lives as well.

Each of us has a perspective through which we see the world and our own individual lives. And that perspective can change as we get older and as our life circumstances change.

The Manitoba Legislature recessed last week following its fall session. The most recent session saw the NDP government attempt to convince Manitobans that all of the things that they failed to do in the past sixteen years, they can be trusted to do in the next few years if they are re-elected as a government.

Each day that goes by the cost to Manitobans keeps going up. That is because each and every day the NDP are busy making more promises and spending more money that they don’t have.

Manitobans are incredible people. Almost annually our residents are recognized as the top charitable givers in the country.

The NDP issued their annual Throne Speech this week to open a new session of the Manitoba Legislature.

It has been 100 years since Canadian soldier Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae wrote those both haunting and inspirational words during World War I and the Second Battle of Ypres as part of the poem In Flanders Fields.

In 2010, provinces from western Canada came together and formed what is known as the New West Partnership Agreement.

Manitoba’s NDP government guaranteed another loan for the ongoing repairs to the Investors Group Field football stadium this week. This time the loan, which is guaranteed by the taxpayers of Manitoba, is for $35.3 million.
