Manager, Solid Waste

The City of Steinbach has an opening for a manager in the Solid Waste Department.

Responsible for the Solid Waste business unit which includes garbage collection service (residential and commercial), operation of the landfill site and waste reduction programs, including composting and recycling as well as other solid waste projects and programs.

Essential Duties:

• Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
• Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Study and standardize department policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
• Prepare and document budget requests; develop and administer adopted budget in assigned area of operations.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, supervise and evaluate programs, plans, services, staffing, equipment and infrastructure of the solid waste department including Inter-municipal contracts.
• Oversee the maintenance of all solid waste vehicles, facilities, and equipment.
• Maintain harmony among workers and resolves grievances

Qualifications:

• Courses in Management or Business Administration
• At least five (5) years’ experience in a senior supervisory position
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to obtain SWANA Landfill Operator certification
