On March 2, 2017, at approximately 1pm, Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services stopped a 2017 Dodge Durango traveling at 150 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Carberry.

Subsequent investigation resulted in a small amount of marijuana and more than $200,000 in cash seized from within the vehicle.

“Attempting to transport proceeds of crime on our roadways is a costly proposition,” said Inspector Ed Moreland, Officer in Charge of Traffic Services in Manitoba. “Proceeds gained from criminal acts have no safe passage in Manitoba as we will enforce the laws to the fullest extent.”

RCMP report that 50-year-old Darren Gurniak of Port Coquitlam, BC, 28-year-old Justin Poitras and 30-year-old Lea Murrell, both from Winnipeg have been arrested. All will be facing charges of possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and possession of proceeds of xrime over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
