The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating circumstances surrounding an allegation of a serious injury sustained by an adult male during his arrest by the RCMP in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Dauphin, Manitoba.

On March 31, 2022, RCMP reported an incident to the IIU that occurred on July 29, 2020 on Highway 20 and Rd 153 N in the RM of Dauphin. According to the notification, on March 30, 2022, a male filed a complaint with the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) for the RCMP regarding a serious injury he sustained during his arrest by RCMP officers.

The allegation arises from the interaction between the male and the RCMP officers during the course of his arrest on July 29, 2020. The male reported to the CRCC that he sustained broken ribs as a result of the incident. As this is a serious injury as defined by regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
