Steinbach RCMP are currently investigating an incident where a car, driven by two unidentified suspects, collided into a hydro transformer, causing a power loss in the area.

On November 21, 2022, at approximately 9:45pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to an incident involving a vehicle colliding into a hydroelectric transformer in the residential neighbourhood of Stone Bridge Crossing in Steinbach.

Police say that local residents nearby reported hearing a large bang followed by a loss of power.

RCMP report that a sedan was observed colliding into a hydro transformer. Two male suspects were then able to get the vehicle free and subsequently fled the scene of the collision. Police noted that they believe speed was a factor in the collision.

Parts from the sedan were recovered on scene and are awaiting forensic examination. Officers say that the suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, black in colour, with damage to the front and left side of the vehicle. The car possibly has brown and/or green paint near the damage.

Update

RCMP report that the driver, a youth from Steinbach, has been identified and police continue to investigate this incident.
