Steinbach RCMP are reporting that two male suspects were recently arrested and charged after breaking into a business building in Steinbach.

On January 30, 2023, at 10:08pm, Steinbach RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter at the business building located at the corner of Brandt Street and Highway 52 in Steinbach.

The complainant and property representative reported that a male suspect had broken in and was now attempting to leave on foot. Officers responded to the scene and located the suspect at a nearby business. The male was subsequently arrested and officers noted that he was displaying signs of being under the influence of drugs.

While lodging the male, police received another call stating that there was a second male suspect who had broken into the business complex and was still inside.

Police located the second suspect on the third floor of the building, and when attempting to arrest him, the male ran down the staircase which was blocked at the bottom floor. Once at the bottom floor, police observed that the male was holding a box cutter to his wrist. Police responded accordingly and the male was eventually placed under arrest and escorted to the Steinbach RCMP Detachment for lodging. The accused was also displaying signs of being under the influence of drugs.

RCMP report that 38-year-old Fraser Schmidt, of Winnipeg, is facing numerous charges in connection to this incident.
