After responding to a call, Nelson House RCMP were able to locate and rescue three stranded men out on the ice at a location approximately four kilometers south of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation. The males had intended to walk to a camp near Threepoint Lake.

Police say that the caller advised that the three males, ages 36, 33 and 25, were walking towards the camp when they realized that they would not be able to make the return trip due to the cold weather. Temperatures were in the -30C to -35C range that afternoon.

Two officers, from Nelson House, each set out on a snowmobile and located the stranded males on the ice. Officers noted that two of individuals were observed to not be wearing the proper winter attire for the extreme cold.

RCMP report that the three males were placed in a toboggan, that was towed behind the snowmobile, and taken to the nursing station for examination for possible frostbite-related injuries. One male was found to have more significant medical issues and was transported to Thompson hospital, where he was treated and has since been released.
