Steinbach RCMP are reporting that two individuals were recently charged and fined for street racing. The charges were part of a traffic enforcement effort by police this past weekend.

On April 14, 2023 just before midnight, Steinbach RCMP Municipal Traffic conducted a traffic stop on a BMW and a Ford truck for street racing on Main Street in Steinbach.

Police say that the involved vehicles were pulled over and both drivers were charged for racing and issued fines for $672 under the Highway Traffic Act. The drivers were from Brandon and Elma, Manitoba.

RCMP report that both drivers subsequently had their driver’s licences suspended for seven days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. Officers noted that the drivers will also have a license review by MPI.

It was noted that enforcement continued throughout the weekend as more tickets were issued for speeding and other offences, for a total of 16.
