Selkirk RCMP are currently investigating an arson incident that recently occurred at a in the driveway of a residence located on Liss Road in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, Manitoba.

On May 8, 2023, at approximately 4:05am, Selkirk RCMP responded to a vehicle fire at a St. Andrews residence. Police say that the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames upon the arrival of the Fire Department and RCMP officers.

Video surveillance of the incident showed that at approximately 3am, two individuals in a truck approached two vehicles parked on the driveway. The suspects then poured what is believed to be a liquid accelerant on both vehicles. One suspect is then seen starting the fire before both culprits fled the scene.

At approximately 4am, the homeowners were awakened by three people who discovered the fire. Subsequently, the homeowners, two adults and three children, were able to get out of the home safely.

RCMP noted that before emergency services arrived, the homeowner and neighbour worked together and dragged the vehicle away from the residence to prevent the fire from spreading to the garage and home.

“This arson is very concerning as there was a family, including young children, asleep in the home when the fire was started,” said Corporal Julie Courchaine of the Manitoba RCMP. “It could have easily spread to the residence.”
