The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an adult male off Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 8.

On Nov. 7, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in a serious injury. According to the notification, on Oct. 27 at 11:30pm, RCMP officers initiated a traffic stop of a white Ford F-150 in Stonewall. As officers approached, the vehicle fled and was subsequently involved in a pursuit that terminated on PTH 8 (McPhillips Street) at Emes Road at approximately 12:40am.

The female driver and a male passenger were arrested. Both occupants resisted arrest and had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle. While the male was being removed from the vehicle, he landed on the asphalt. Later at the Stonewall RCMP detachment, the male complained of testicular pain due to the fall. He was taken to Selkirk Regional Health Centre and later admitted to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg where he underwent medical treatment.

As the disclosed injuries meet the definition of serious injury under the IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.

Witnesses or other individuals who have information or video footage that may assist the investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll free at 1-844-667-6060.
